How the EMI calculator works
An EMI (Equated Monthly Instalment) is the fixed amount you repay each month over the loan tenure. Each EMI includes a portion of the principal and a portion of the interest. In the early months, more of your EMI goes towards interest; over time, more goes towards principal. Our calculator shows you the exact monthly EMI, the total interest you'll pay, and the total amount you'll repay.
EMI calculation formula
The EMI is calculated using this standard formula:
EMI = P × r × (1+r)n ÷ [(1+r)n − 1]
- P = Principal (loan amount)
- r = Monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100)
- n = Number of monthly instalments (tenure in months)
Tips to reduce your EMI burden
- Choose a longer tenure for lower monthly EMI (but you'll pay more total interest)
- Make a larger down payment to reduce the principal
- Negotiate a lower interest rate — even 0.5% makes a big difference over years
- Consider prepayment when you have surplus funds to cut total interest
- For business loans, government schemes like CGTMSE and Mudra often offer better rates
Frequently asked questions
What is a good interest rate for a business loan in India?
Business loan rates typically range from 9% to 18% depending on the lender, your credit profile, and collateral. Government-backed schemes like Mudra and CGTMSE often offer lower rates. We can help you find the right scheme.
Does a longer tenure reduce EMI?
Yes — a longer tenure lowers your monthly EMI but increases the total interest paid. A shorter tenure means higher EMIs but less total interest.
